EDINBURGH
FESTIVAL 2000 EATING OUT GUIDE |
A
Room in the Town
Former
managers Peter Knight and John Tindal are a pair of very hands-on proprietors
and their love of food shows in their enthusiasm for fresh Scottish
ingredients combined with a desire that everyone has a good time.
The
atmosphere is very relaxed and the room in decorated in what might best
be described as an ad hoc fashion. However, Peter and John declare that
they would rather spend money on the food and ingredients than elaborate
place settings and they do seem to have got it right.
The
menu changes every six weeks and there's lots of repeat business as
well as custom from nearby hotels and upmarket B&Bs.;
The
menu is strong on Scottish game, meat and fish with a leavening of international
flavours and colours - try the prawn and parsley crusted sole with a
chilli, courgette and tomato salsa and lemon cream sauce.
A
warm welcome, an imaginative and carefully presented menu, and accommodating
service.
